Key notes:
Sweetpea is a great medium size.
She is gentle , sweet, and affectionate.
Does well in car rides.
Does ok on the leash, not a leash puller but is still shy with new exposure to things like walks.
Crate trained
She loves puppies and submissive or easy going dogs, but does well with all dogs small or large.
Currently she lives in a home with cats and shows no prey drive, but she is never left alone with them.
She is a great for a first time dog adopter and will adjust to most homes... families, single adult, or working adult.
She would do fine in a home with a yard or appartment
She is in need of a foster or adoptive family.
Healthy and ready for a home
Meet Sweetpea! Sweetpea was rescued from the streets of Baja along with her 6 young pups. She also had another young pup with her who was about 4-5 months old, likely a puppy from a previous litter. She was an excellent mother and did whatever she could to keep her little family safe. In fact, a Good Samaritan noticed her taking food she had found on the street to a vacant lot where she had found shelter under some bushes and trash.
Sweetpea has been living in a wonderful foster home since the end of July. Her foster family has said that Sweetpea is a total sweetheart with people and she gets along well with other dogs and cats too! She has started to play tug-of-war with her new foster sibling and she likes to carry around the tug-of-war toy.
Sweetpea is slowly coming out of her shell and would likely benefit from a home where there are fewer dogs so she can receive more individual attention. She would also benefit from a foster or adopter who can take her out for daily walks in order to help her adjust to new srroundings. We are confident that with a lot of love and attention, she will continue to become more confident and overcome her shyness.
Sweetpea would like nothing more than to find the perfect adopter who will give her the love she deserves! Could that be you? If you are interested in this gentle girl, please fill out an online adoption application. Don’t wait!
